Humpback Whale Institute

Unique, informative and interactive. The Humpback Whale Institute, located in Praia do Forte, first opened in 2006. Since then, it has been working with the tourists and the community, and promoting environmental education. The institute is a very important part of the project’s and its sponsors publicity. It also generate jobs and raises funds for research and conservation of humpback whales and marine ecosystems.

Highlight! The life-size replicas in the institute impress visitors and show some of the typical behaviors of the species, such as the 'spy' on the surface, resting habits, and the pectoral fin displays.

The location is also the starting point for whale watching cruises that take place from July to October, when tourists attend an informative lecture before boarding.
